Rescue teams from Libya’s General Directorate of Coastal Security rescued 130 illegal migrants in the northern Qara Bolli region.

The teams received a distress call from the boat called “Wadi Kaam” through the main communications room, and the Ministry of Interior reported that all passengers were rescued, and legal action was taken against them.

Authorities involved in illegal migration routinely arrest dozens of migrants who have sneaked into the country, placing them in shelters in the capital Tripoli until they are deported.

The Libyan authorities are working to return hundreds of irregular migrants to their countries of origin or to a “host” third country, through the International Organization for Migration’s “voluntary return” program.

The incident comes two weeks after an illegal migrant boat sank off the Libyan coast, killing 61 migrants, including women and children.
