The search and rescue ship “Geo Parents”, run by Doctors Without Borders, arrived in the port of Salerno in southern Italy on Saturday with 99 migrants on board, which it rescued in two operations off the coast of Libya this week.

Doctors Without Borders stated that among these migrants, there were 53 minors, including 37 unaccompanied minors.

This group included 41 boys and 12 girls, many of whom were young children. The 99 rescued people were disembarked safely at the port of Salerno on the morning of Saturday, July 10.

MSF reported that the migrants faced harassment from Libyan security forces during their arduous journey, forcing many to jump into the water and prefer to risk their lives at sea rather than be returned to Libya.

Most of these migrants come from countries such as Ivory Coast, Syria, Somalia, Pakistan, Guinea and Burkina Faso.
