Pakistani Minister of Religious Affairs, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, announced that about 50,000 Pakistani citizens have gone missing during their religious pilgrimages in Iraq, without specifying a specific date for this event.
Hussain stated in an official statement that Iraq has a special system to monitor incoming visitors, which enhances safety measures.
On the other hand, Iraqi Minister of Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, spoke about the influx of tourists from different countries, including Pakistan, where he indicated that some of these visitors have engaged in business in Iraqi markets in illegal ways.
Al-Asadi stressed that this matter has negative effects on the local market, which prompted the ministry to take strict legal measures to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and maintain economic stability.
According to reports, thousands of Pakistanis visit Iraq annually to visit shrines and religious sites, as religious tourism between Iraq and Pakistan has witnessed a 20% increase.
