Wood Mackenzie has warned of risks facing more than five of the world’s oil refineries, leading to the closure of a number of facilities.

An analysis of 465 refining facilities reported that nearly 21 percent of them are subject to closure, mainly in Europe and China, threatening to lose 3.9 million barrels per day of refining capacity.

It also noted that 11 refining sites in Europe are at risk of closure, accounting for 45% of refineries, citing weak gasoline refining profit margins, pressure to reduce emissions, and competition between modern refiners in the Middle East and Asia.
