The draw for the African Champions League repeated the matches of previous seasons for Moroccan clubs, as Raja Casablanca and the Royal Army face opponents they previously met in the preliminary rounds of the tournament.
Raja Casablanca will renew the competition with Negelec from Niger, a team that Raja previously defeated 3-0 on aggregate during the season before last.
While the Royal Army will meet the Nigerian team Remo Stars, which it faced in the last season and was able to overcome with difficulty after a draw in Morocco and a win in Niger.
The two teams, Raja and El Gaish, hope to pass the preliminary rounds to secure a place in the group stage, which represents a strategic goal for both clubs in an effort to achieve a presence in the tournament after two seasons without notable achievements.
It is noteworthy that Wydad Casablanca Club was the last Moroccan club in this tournament, having won the 2022 edition against Al-Ahly of Egypt, and also finished runner-up in the subsequent edition.
While Raja’s last victory in the title dates back to 1999 against Esperance of Tunisia, and the Royal Army has not won the title since 1985, making it the first Moroccan club to win the championship.
