Today, Monday, the Libyan Minister of the Interior, Imad Trabelsi, and his Tunisian counterpart, Khaled Al-Nouri, supervised the reopening ceremony of the Ras Jedir border crossing between the two countries, which had been closed since last March 20 due to security problems on the Libyan side.
The opening ceremony took place on the Tunisian side of the crossing, and the two ministers held a joint press conference soon to provide details about the reopening of the crossing and the security measures taken to ensure the safety of travelers.
The border resumes its normal activity today, ensuring the passage of travelers in both directions between Libya and Tunisia, after the crossing had been closed by a Libyan decision since last March, after several failed attempts to reopen it, as during this period the Dehiba Wazen crossing was the only land gateway between the two countries.
The mayors and notables of the Libyan coastal municipalities of Zuwara, Al-Jameel, Raqdalin, Al-Jadidah, Al-Ajailat, and Sabratha organized a joint protest during the past days, blocking the coastal road and demanding that the government provide a series of services and open the crossing.
During his meeting with notables of the region, the head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dbeibeh , promised to respond to these demands. As a result, the coastal road from Tripoli to Tunisia was opened, but the border point remained closed until today.
The reopening of the Ras Jedir crossing aims to facilitate the movement of passengers between the two countries and strengthen bilateral relations after a period of tensions and security problems.
