Cheikh Can Sar, Senegalese goalkeeper at third-division club Rayo Makhadahonda, has been sent off after a fight with a fan who insulted him racially.

The incident took place on Saturday, as the Spanish team refused to end the match after the expulsion of its goalkeeper in the 84th minute, and the team left the field, and the referees stopped the match.

The Spanish press reported that several Sistao River fans insulted 23-year-old Sheikh Sarr after their team’s second goal in the 83rd minute of the match.

The Spanish Football Federation said in a statement that match officials were unable to hear the insults, adding that referee Francisco Garcia Risgo stopped the match without being able to apply the anti-racism protocol.

The incident comes hours after Sevilla FC was convicted of similar insults towards one of its players and coach following its match against Getafe in the thirtieth stage of the Spanish league football.

On Tuesday, an international friendly between Spain and Brazil was held in response to racist insults against Real Madrid striker Vinicius since joining the club in 2018.

Brazilian striker Vinicius has been subjected to racist insults in the Spanish tournament, including an incident in Valencia in 2023 that caused a wave of international outrage.

Earlier, Sevilla FC condemned racist insults against Argentine player Marcos Acuña during their match in Getafe, with fans calling them “monkeys” according to the referee’s report.
