Qatar Red Crescent Society has launched a new residential village project in the Kotokali Kwara Taghi area of Niger, to provide shelter for poor families with full facilities including an artesian well, a mosque, and a two-classroom school.

This step came during a visit by the Director of Relief and International Programs Sector at Qatar Red Crescent, Dr. Mohammed Salah Ibrahim, who praised the long-term partnership between the Red Crescent and the Government of Niger that began in 2005, and stressed the important role played by these initiatives in supporting Nigerien families and improving their living conditions.

Dr. Ibrahim also announced a series of new projects that will be launched in the coming period, including the establishment of other residential villages, the drilling of artesian wells, and income-generating projects aimed at enhancing the financial independence of families in various regions of Niger.

Dr. Ibrahim and the Governor of Tillaberi region participated in laying the foundation stone for the “Village of Hope”, which includes 47 solar-powered homes, in addition to basic facilities such as a school, a mosque and a health center, which enhances the infrastructure and contributes to improving the quality of life for the residents of the region.

Qatar Red Crescent Society was established in March 1978 as the first voluntary charitable organization in Qatar. The Society received international recognition from the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva and joined the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Qatar Red Crescent Society’s programs include training and rehabilitation, awareness and education, and medical services, as it participates in humanitarian and development relief programs in conflict and disaster areas around the world, and provides medical and logistical support, such as providing medicines and medical equipment and building psychological support centers.
