Russian President Vladimir Putin called for radical changes to migration policies and granting Russian citizenship and stressed the need to ensure the interests and security of the state and society in order to preserve peace between nationalities.
Putin told a meeting of the interior ministry council that it was “unacceptable to use the terrorist attack in Crocus to stir up national strife and other forms of racism in the country.”
The Russian president called for attention to combating extremism and stopping illegal immigration, stressing welcoming everyone who respects Russia, its language, culture, history, and traditions, explaining that “we must follow the principle that whoever wants to migrate to Russia and live and work in it must respect our traditions, language, culture and history, and this principle must be decisive.”
“The main goal of the perpetrators of the attack and those behind them was to sow discord, panic and hatred in our country and divide Russia from within. Under no circumstances should we allow them to do so.”
Putin assured that Russia will reach all the beneficiaries and agents of the terrorist attack in Crocos.
On the newly joined regions, Putin said more than 3.2 million residents of those regions had obtained Russian passports.
The Russian Interior Ministry has submitted to the government a bill that tightens the country’s migration legislation, including limiting the temporary stay of foreigners to 90 days, which cannot be extended within a year.
The bill tightens oversight of employers who employ foreign nationals and prohibits government agencies, organizations, individuals, and legal entities from providing any services to violators of immigration legislation. It also includes other decisions aimed at easing the conditions of residence of foreigners in Russia.
