On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, the Medal of Honor for his great contribution to developing and strengthening relations between the two countries.
The text of the decree published on the official portal of legal documents stated: “For his significant contribution to the development and strengthening of relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Congo, the Medal of Honor was awarded to the President of the Republic of Congo, Sassou Nguesso Denis.”
The President of the Republic of the Congo arrived in Russia on Tuesday for a visit that will continue until Saturday, June 29.
During a meeting with Putin in Moscow, Nguesso praised the strength and resilience of the Russian authorities and people in the face of illegally imposed sanctions as a result of the conflict in Ukraine and other conflicts.
Nguesso said: “Your country and your people are showing their courage. They are resisting the sanctions that were illegally imposed on your country. I would like to praise the Russian people for this courage. We must strengthen our relations in these difficult times.”
Nguesso stressed that his visit to Moscow aims to deepen cooperation with Russia, pointing to the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, which this year celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations.
On the economic side, Nguesso discussed with the Russian company “Lukoil” its participation in oil projects in his country, expressing the company’s good prospects as an operator of oil projects in the Republic of Congo.
“Lukoil” is currently participating in the “Marine ) and the State Oil Company of the Republic of the Congo (10%).
