Poland announced the start of military exercises in the province of Farmian-Masuria bordering Russia, as part of growing tensions between the two countries and escalating military activity on Russia’s western border.
These exercises are part of NATO’s “Standing Defender 2024” exercise, which will be held from May 4 to 6.
The High Command of the Polish Armed Forces published a statement confirming the deployment of its forces in the designated area, where the exercises will include the regions of the provinces of West Pomerania, Pomeranian, and Warmian-Masuria.
About 50 ships and 80 aircraft, as well as 1,100 units of ground military equipment, including 133 tanks and about 90,000 military personnel, will take part in the exercises, and the exercise sites will include the Baltic states, Poland, and Germany.
The announcement comes at a time of heightened tension between Russia and NATO over increased military activity on the border, with Moscow repeatedly expressing concern about the alliance’s build-up in Europe.
