A drone-fired missile killed four civilians, including children, in an attack on a house in Pakistan’s northwestern region on the Afghan border, according to local police.
Local police chief Hidayatullah said the attack took place in South Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province at dawn on Tuesday.
He said the missile fired by the drone hit a house in a former Pakistani Taliban stronghold in the area.
The Pakistani military drove Pakistani Taliban insurgents out of the area years ago, but they have regrouped there.
Those killed in the incident were civilians with no links to the movement, and villagers laid their bodies on a road near a military camp and protested the killing, demanding information about who was responsible.
The Pakistani “Taliban” is a separate group from the Afghan “Taliban”, but an ally.
