The organization “Médecins Sans Frontières” (Doctors Without Borders) in Sudan stated today, Monday, that vaccines are no longer available in South Darfur state, and medical food supplies have become almost depleted throughout the state.
In a statement, the organization expressed concern that “by next month, there will be nothing left to offer,” noting that a significant portion of the population urgently needs assistance.
They added, “Two weeks ago, Médecins Sans Frontières teams in Jebel Marra, South Darfur, administered the last remaining doses of pentavalent, polio, and measles vaccines available in the entire state, and they are now forced to turn away patients seeking vaccinations.”
They continued, “In South Darfur, vaccines have been depleted for weeks. They have also run out in Rokero and Zalingei in Central Darfur, as well as in El Fasher and Zamzam Camp in North Darfur. Now we are seeing children vulnerable to diseases and serious complications that can be completely prevented, with a significant risk of disease outbreaks.”
The organization promised that what it called “systematic obstacles” are affecting life-saving supplies across Sudan, stressing the need to ensure unhindered humanitarian access “because the lives of many depend on it.”
