One person was killed and another injured in gunfire during an attack on the entrance to the US Embassy in Beirut by three gunmen, according to a Lebanese security official.
The Lebanese Army and embassy security confronted the attackers, killing one of them, another fled, and the third was arrested.
A statement issued by the army indicated that the attacker who opened fire had Syrian nationality, and was injured and taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
Following the incident, army units carried out searches in the area surrounding the embassy to ensure security and safety.
For its part, the US Embassy confirmed that all diplomats and facilities are safe, and that it is cooperating with local authorities in investigations.
