The sides of the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations football were completed, after the round of 8 matches (quarter-finals) ended with the qualification of the teams of Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast and South Africa.

To get through the quarter-finals and reach the Golden Square, Nigeria beat Angola by a goal for nothing, DR Congo beat Guinea 3-1, Ivory Coast, the owner, and the crowd, beat Mali 2-1, and South Africa crossed Cape Verde’s obstacle on penalties 2-1 after the end of the original and extra time without goals.

The semi-finals of the continental tournament will be played on February 7, with DR Congo facing Ivory Coast, while Nigeria clashing with South Africa.

In this edition of the continental tournament, the cup will not be lifted by a previously uncrowned team, as the four teams that reached the semi-finals have already won the title, as Nigeria lifted the cup three times in 1980, 1994 and 2013, while Ivory Coast lifted the cup twice in 1992 and 2015, and the Democratic Republic of Congo won the title on two occasions also in 1968 and 1974, while South Africa lifted the cup once in 1996.
