A Colombian military helicopter crashes in a rural area in the north of the country, killing nine soldiers on board.

The Colombian Army announced in a statement on Tuesday that the helicopter was transporting supplies to troops in the municipality of Santa Rosa del Sur, where clashes had taken place between two armed groups: the rebel National Liberation Army and the Gulf Clan, also known as “Del Golfo.”

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Pietro, lamented the incident via platform X, confirming the death of soldiers who were participating in military operations against the Gulf clan.

The Colombian military indicated that the crashed helicopter was an Mi-17, and that none of its passengers survived, as the victims included two officers and three soldiers.

The Gulf Clan, also known as ‘del Golfo’, is the largest criminal organization in Colombia, recruiting mainly from former right-wing paramilitaries, estimated at six thousand militants.
