Nine African countries imported 518 vehicles from Egypt last year, according to a report issued by the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The report revealed that the importing countries are “Cameroon, Libya, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Sudan, Benin, Ethiopia, Algeria and Morocco.”
The export value of cars to African countries from Egypt amounted to about 18 million and 405 thousand dollars, and Cameroon was the most importing with a value of 7.2 million dollars, followed by Libya with about 4.3 million.
Côte d’Ivoire ranked third with a value of $ 2.3 million, followed by Sudan with about one million and 37 thousand dollars, while Benin came fifth with a value of $ 717.3 thousand.
The report revealed that Egypt’s exports of cars of various categories increased by 94.7% to record 91 million and 962 thousand dollars, with a total of 1595 vehicles, compared to 47 million and 225 thousand, by 867 vehicles in 2022.
In terms of global markets, the UK topped the list of countries importing cars from Egypt last year, with a total of 238 buses worth $36.7 million.
Saudi Arabia ranked second with 19.4% with an estimated value of $17.8 million, followed by the UAE with $7.9 million.
The growth of automotive exports in Egypt is due to the expansion of a number of local companies in foreign markets, and the channeling of a large part of their domestic production to export abroad.
