Nigerian President Paula Tinobo announced the opening of land and air borders with the Republic of Niger and the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on the country.
A Nigerian presidential statement said that this decision comes in response to the decisions of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which was taken during its extraordinary summit in Abuja on February 24, which discussed emergency developments related to security and peace in the region.
Presidential spokesman Ajouri Njilal noted that the leaders decided to lift economic sanctions on the Republic of Niger, as well as on Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.
In addition to reopening the land and air borders between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger, the decision includes enabling all commercial flights to and from the Republic of Niger, as well as stopping the freezing of the assets of the Republic of Niger in the central banks of the regional group.
The statement concluded with Tinobo’s announcement of the lifting of financial and economic sanctions imposed on the Republic of Guinea as well.
