Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Group CEO Millie Kyari announced that his country is preparing to make a final decision on the investment of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project by the end of this year.
Kyari stressed during the “S&P Global Holding” conference in Houston, USA, that “the project aims to facilitate the passage of Nigerian natural gas resources and their export abroad.”
“The line will contribute to creating integration between African countries and a number of countries that do not have gas resources,” Chiari said, stressing that “the project has passed the planning stage, at the end of the year we will see our plan.”
Chiari pointed out that the cost of the project is up to $ 25 billion, and it is expected that the sources of funding allocated to the project will be determined in the near future, in addition to determining the total cost.
The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Minerals had previously announced that 2024 would see the establishment of the company responsible for coordinating the financing, construction, and operation of the Nigerian-Moroccan gas pipeline project.
The office pointed out that “important strides have been made in the course of implementing the project, as detailed studies have recently been completed, while field assessments and environmental and social impact studies are being completed as scheduled.”
“All parties acknowledge the progress made in this strategic project, which has the support of all the countries that transit,” the office said, adding that “this infrastructure will also enable the supply of gas to landlocked countries, such as Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali.”
