French soccer club Nice has suspended defender Youcef Atal after he shared an antisemitic message on social media. Atal has apologized for his actions.
Algerian international Youcef Atal was taken into custody on Friday as part of an investigation into “glorification of terrorism” On his Instagram account, he shared a post related to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. He quickly deleted his post and apologized, but the prosecutor’s office, seized by the prefect and the mayor of this city in the south of France, opened an investigation.
His club had suspended him until further notice and the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League had imposed a seven-match suspension.
