Newspaper: Washington reassesses its relationship with South Africa because of Israel

The US Congress is reconsidering relations between Washington and South Africa over its genocide charges at the International Criminal Court, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Relations between the United States and South Africa face new challenges due to the political and diplomatic moves adopted by Pretoria.

South Africa is strengthening ties with countries considered rivals to the United States, such as Russia and China, with trilateral naval exercises taking place between the countries in February 2023.

The bill was adopted by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee by a vote of 36 to 13, aimed at reviewing the benefits South Africa receives from the United States, including duty-free exports.
