The newspaper “Anti Diplomatico” said that Western countries, led by Italy, are seeking to expand their diplomatic and military interventions in Libya, which has become an arena of strong competition over its oil resources and strategic location in North Africa.

The newspaper explained that Italy is currently working on forming a European Libyan military corps as part of its new strategy of intervention and domination.

This corps aims to enhance Italian influence in Libya by engaging in political and military fields, which enhances control over Italian areas of influence in the country.

“Anti Diplomatico” reported that one of the main goals of forming the European corps is to secure and protect Italian companies operating in the Libyan oil and gas sector.

The newspaper stated that Italy is disturbed by the ongoing setbacks due to the closure of oil sites and fields by Libyan demonstrators, who are seeking to improve their living conditions. In addition, Italy seeks to confront Russian influence in Libya and Africa in general through this corps.

In a related context, the newspaper confirmed that Western countries and the outgoing government of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh  intend to finance the corps with Libyan funds frozen abroad, which will be released in coordination with the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer.

On the other hand, Libyan strategic expert Muhammad Saadoun expressed the Libyan people’s rejection of foreign presence, especially in the western region of the country.

Saadoun pointed out that the Supreme Council of Zintan Revolutionaries announced its categorical rejection of the presence of any foreign forces or foreign oil companies inside the city or in neighboring areas.

Saadoun added that foreign presence, whether from oil companies or military forces, only serves the interests of Dbeibeh  and his entourage.

He considered that the continuation of the current situation may lead to an escalation of the regional conflict over Libya’s wealth, which exacerbates the security and political chaos and delays the parliamentary and presidential elections that the Libyan people are looking forward to.

Experts believe that the declared goals of forming the European Corps contradict Libya’s real interests, which negatively affects the political and military situation in the country. In recent days, the western region has witnessed armed clashes that reflect the increasing tension resulting from these interventions.
