The head of the West Alexandria neighborhood, Engineer Sahar Shaaban, revealed that the number of victims of the collapsed Wardian property in Alexandria, Egypt, has risen to 4 deaths and two injured, and others are being searched for under the rubble.

Shaaban said that the property was issued a demolition order a year ago and included the demolition of two upper floors and the restoration of the ground floor, adding that the residents and the owner refused to implement the decision and a report of the incident was written at the time.

The incident began when the operations room of the West Alexandria neighborhood received notification of the collapse of a property on Sobky Street in the Wardian area, and the presence of people under the rubble.

The examination revealed that the property was an old building, consisting of a ground floor and 3 upper floors, inhabited, and that it collapsed to the surface of the ground except for parts of the shops on the ground floor.

It is noteworthy that Alexandria governorate is witnessing a frequent phenomenon, which is the collapse of real estate, as it witnessed last year several similar and horrific incidents, the most prominent of which was the collapse of a 14-storey property on Khalil Hamada Street, which resulted in the death of 10 people and the injury of others.
