Morocco’s Nahda Berkane beat Egypt’s Zamalek 2-1 at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final, boosting their chances of winning the title in the second leg in Cairo.

The match began with pressure from the hosts, who managed to open the scoring in the 13th minute through Issoufou Dayo, who successfully took a penalty, after it was calculated with the help of VAR.

Adel Tahif boosted the score in the 32nd minute by scoring the second goal with a powerful header.

Zamalek did not give up and was able to reduce the difference at the beginning of the second half through Seif al-Din al-Jaziri, who took advantage of a cross from Ahmed Sayed “Zizou” to score a goal with a perfect header.

The meeting continued open to all possibilities, with dangerous opportunities for the two teams, most notably the shot of Moroccan Youssef Mehri, which hit the crossbar, followed by a ball from the Egyptian “Zizou” that hit the post.

The final minutes of the match witnessed tense moments and missed opportunities from both teams, making the second leg in Cairo decisive and exciting, as Zamalek hopes to turn the tables and crown the title, while Nahda Berkane is enough to draw to maintain its lead and win the cup.

The renaissance of Berkane reached the final at the expense of USM Algiers and seeks revenge from Zamalek and crowning the Confederation Cup for the current season, while Zamalek reached the final at the expense of the Ghanaian team Dreams after a goalless draw in the first leg in Cairo and victory with a clean triple in the second leg.
