The Libyan Government of National Unity has opened an urgent investigation after mysterious cracks appeared in the south of the Libyan capital Tripoli, reported by citizens, and demanded to know their causes.

The Libyan Ministry of Environment said in a statement that a team affiliated with it visited the area and closely examined the phenomenon of land cracks, adding that a report will be prepared and referred to the competent authorities in the ministry to find out their causes and the extent of their danger.

The Libyan Agricultural Police published on its Facebook account a statement in which it said: “Due to what was reported in the media about the presence of cracks and cracks in some farms in the Awlad Abu Aisha area in the municipality of Sbeia, the Agricultural Police Station Souq Al-Khamis of the Four Districts branch went to the farms.”

The statement added: “The teams found cracks with a length of 15 meters and a width of 4 meters, and these cracks reached olive trees and there are cracks in other farms, in which the crack reaches a length of 200 meters and a depth of half a meter, which is about 20 meters away from the agricultural well.”

In turn, the Director of Environmental Sanitation Affairs in Sba’a, Dr. Saleh Al-Sadiq, explained during a visit to the place that these cracks occurred at three semi-circular points on the farm of a citizen in the mentioned area and do not pose any danger.

Saleh stressed that a team of specialists and technicians will be assigned to follow up on these cracks and find out their causes and address them in order to ensure the security and safety of citizens and the environment.
