A bizarre incident in the Moroccan city of Zagora sparked outrage on social media after a farmer amputated the legs of a donkey that accidentally entered his land in search of food.

A farm owner cut off a donkey’s legs with a sharp object in a brutal manner, after the donkey entered his farm and ate the herbs there, causing a severe wound and the animal losing mobility.

The circulating images showed the donkey suffering from severe pain as a result of a severe injury to its hind limbs, prompting activists on social media to demand accountability for the perpetrator for this brutal act, condemning the torture of animals and demanding the enactment of strict laws to protect them.

After the incident, the security authorities intervened and arrested the farmer, where the Public Prosecution decided to pursue him in case of release in exchange for a bail of 2,000 dirhams and refer him to trial on charges of causing unnecessary injury to an animal.

Morocco’s penal code provides for prison terms and fines for torturing or killing livestock, including donkeys, as this type of brutal and abusive behavior is strictly prohibited.
