Morocco has signed a new protocol aimed at developing gas infrastructure and constructing a new gas pipeline linking the Nador port terminal in the western Mediterranean to the European Maghreb pipeline.

According to a statement published Wednesday, the protocol was signed by the Ministries of the Interior, Economy, Finance, Equipment, Water and Energy Transition (Ministry of Energy) and Sustainable Development, along with five public institutions and companies: the National Port Agency, the National Office of Electricity and Potable Water, the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Minerals, the Nador West Mediterranean Company, and the National Motorways Company of Morocco.

The protocol includes the development of the LNG import terminal in the western Mediterranean port of Nador, and the construction of a new gas pipeline linking the terminal to the Maghreb-European pipeline linking Morocco to Europe.

The multi-year protocol aims to provide multiple LNG import outlets, infrastructure for storing and transporting natural gas, as well as supporting gas pipelines connecting domestic gas producing basins to consumers.

The move seeks to enhance coordination between ministries and authorities in the Kingdom to achieve comprehensive development of gas infrastructure and promote stability and sustainable development in the sector.
