Moroccan military said coastal combing and maritime patrols had succeeded in rescuing 269 irregular migrants who were planning to head to the Canary Islands.
According to a statement by the Moroccan Armed Forces, the operations took place in an area about ten kilometers southwest of the Moroccan city of Tan-Tan, where the forces, in cooperation with combing units, succeeded in thwarting three attempts at illegal migration.
A total of 147 candidates for irregular migration were intercepted, including 103 from sub-Saharan Africa and 44 Moroccans, the statement said.
In addition, two Moroccan navy combat units intervened in two separate naval operations, off the western coasts of Tantan and Dakhla, to assist two boats carrying 122 illegal immigration candidates, including 84 from sub-Saharan Africa and 38 Moroccans, the statement said.
The statement concluded by noting that the rescued migrants received the necessary aid before being handed over to the competent authorities to take the necessary measures.
