A group of associative and human rights activists launched an international coordination to demand the return of the Eastern Sahara, which France carved out of Morocco in favor of Algeria in 1962.

The organizers of this initiative are preparing to launch a national petition to collect the signatures of Moroccans on this demand, and to organize seminars inside and outside the country with the aim of re-reading the history that confirms in documents that these territories have always been part of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The announcement of the establishment of this coordination coincides with statements by the director of royal documents, in which she stressed that “the documents of appointments and reconstruction prove Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.”

“The establishment of this co-ordination, which includes more than 130 associations, comes in the context of Moroccan civil society’s response to the recent Algerian provocations targeting the Kingdom,” said Mustapha Ayach, general coordinator of the International Coordination for the Return of Eastern Sahara and national coordinator of the Moroccan Organization for Citizenship and the Defence of Territorial Integrity.

“The initiative also comes to emphasize the presence of Moroccan civil society at the heart of concerns and concerns about issues,” Ayyash told the online newspaper Hespress.

Ayach pointed out that the coordination will also launch a national petition to collect signatures in favor of this demand, where offices will be opened at the level of prefectures and cities to receive citizens, and a report on the subject will be submitted to the responsible authorities in Morocco and plead this demand in international platforms and forums.
