An international research team from the University of Brittany in France, along with Moroccan, German, and Spanish universities, discovered what is believed to be the oldest traces of human footprints in North Africa.
These traces date back to about 100,000 years ago and were found on the coast of the Moroccan city of Al Hoceima, near the Atlantic Ocean, about 90 kilometers south of Tangier.
Studies and scientific analyses have shown that five individuals, including children, teenagers, and adults, left between 80 to 85 footprints heading towards the sea while searching for food thousands of years ago.
The research related to this discovery took about a year and a half, and the results of the study were published in the scientific journal “Nature” as part of a previous two-year scientific project on the dynamics of the rocky coast in the Al Hoceima region.
