Morocco called on the European Union to assume its responsibility to protect and preserve the partnership between the two parties from political provocations and manoeuvres.

Mustafa Paetas, a government spokesman, stressed the important role the EU should play in this regard.

Following the weekly cabinet meeting, Paytas referred to the recommendation of the Prosecutor of the European Court of Justice, Tamara Capita, to cancel the fisheries and agricultural cooperation agreements between Rabat and Brussels.

He stated that there is an appeal against the preliminary judgment issued on September 29, 2021, with the latter expected to be issued by the end of this year.

Paetas also expressed optimism that the existing partnership will overcome the current obstacles, adding that Morocco is not a party to the cases before the court, and that the European Union is the defendant party, stressing that some Moroccan professional associations have joined the support group in the defense team.

Fisheries and agricultural cooperation agreements between Morocco and the European Union have contributed to raising the Kingdom’s GDP, and the cancellation of these agreements has negative economic repercussions for both parties.
