Moroccan security authorities announced the dismantling of a four-member terrorist network responsible for recruiting and sending fighters to join ISIS in the sub-Saharan Sahel region.
“As part of the proactive approach to countering terrorist threats, on January 29 and 30, 2024, the Central Bureau of Judicial Research of the General Directorate for Surveillance of the National Territory (DGST) dismantled a terrorist network consisting of four elements between the ages of 35 and 40 in the cities of Tangier, Casablanca, Beni Mellal and Inezgane, who are active in recruiting and sending fighters to join ISIS’s branch in the Sahel region south of the Sahara,” MAP reported.
According to a statement by the Central Bureau of Judicial Research, investigations have proven that this network coordinates with ISIS leaders in the sub-Saharan Sahel in order to facilitate the entry of extremists to this area.
