Football fans are anticipating a decisive match on Thursday evening between the Moroccan and Egyptian national teams, as the two teams compete for the bronze medal in the men’s football competition at the Paris Olympics.
The match will be held at the “La Beaujoire” stadium in the city of Nantes, to determine the third-place winner.
The Moroccan national team seeks to achieve its first Olympic medal in its football history, as it succeeded in passing the group stage for the first time, after shining in the African Championship qualifying for the Olympics and defeated its Egyptian counterpart 2-1 in the final match held on its home ground.
The Atlas Lions, led by their captain Achraf Hakimi, aspire to write a new history by achieving the bronze medal, after their disappointment in losing in the semi-final to the Spanish national team.
On the other hand, the Egyptian team enters the match under the leadership of its Brazilian coach Rogerio Micale, who is looking to add a new Olympic medal to his record after leading the Brazilian team to win the gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Egypt is seeking to achieve its first Olympic medal in football after many participations in its Olympic history, and despite playing two previous matches to determine third place in 1928 and 1964, it was unable to win the medal.
In another sport, Bahraini runner Winfred Yaffe added a new achievement to Arab sports by winning the gold medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase race at the Paris Olympics.
Yaffe (24 years old) managed to break the Olympic record with a time of 8:52.76 minutes, ahead of the former Tokyo champion, Ugandan Biroth Shimutai.
This victory represents the third gold in the history of Bahrain’s participation in the Olympic Games and enhances its position as a sporting power in long races.
