Algerian Fisheries Minister Ahmed Badani announced that his country is negotiating with Mauritania in order to obtain access to the Atlantic Ocean through the Mauritanian coast.

These statements came during a press conference on the sidelines of the ninth session of the International Fisheries Salon, held in Oran from the eighth to the eleventh of February.

Badani added in his speech that the vast fish wealth in Mauritania will be part of the negotiations between the two sides.

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf met with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, where he handed him a message from his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The data indicate that the talks go beyond the usual consultation and coordination on an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean, in conjunction with an African movement towards engaging in the Atlantic initiative put forward by King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

All Algerian moves and statements, both in public and private, indicate great Algerian apprehension about the Atlantic Initiative, which will open a broad development horizon for the countries that will participate in the initiative, and countries such as Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad have begun to join the initiative.
