A drone belonging to the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces bombed two cars and a large truck in the “Al-Mak” area inside the buffer zone near the Mauritanian border, according to informed sources in Mauritania.
The sources confirmed that the targeted cars and truck belonged to prospectors from the Tindouf camps, but the bombing did not result in any human losses.
This bombing coincided with the presence of Mauritanian prospectors in the same area practicing illegal prospecting activities, but they were able to flee to the Mauritanian interior immediately after the bombing began.
Following this incident, the governor of Tiris Zemour, located in the far north of Mauritania, held an emergency meeting with artisanal mining unions.
During the meeting, the governor urged prospectors to respect Mauritania’s territorial borders while practicing their activities, stressing the need to take urgent measures to ensure this respect. He also called for launching awareness and sensitization campaigns among prospectors to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
