The Director of the Media Office of the Tracing Authority in Libya, Abdulaziz Al-Jaafari, reported that 1,739 bodies were exhumed from the Dahr al-Ahmar cemetery and 862 from the Martouba cemetery, since the Derna flood until the end of January this year.

Al-Jaafari added that the bodies exhumed from the sea and demolished buildings amounted to 235 bodies. Al-Jaafari explained that the shrouding and reburial operations at the cemetery of Al-Fataeh amounted to 2,876 bodies.

The director of the Authority’s media office also pointed out that the number of open family files is 2,150, while DNA samples were taken from 1,767 people. Al-Jaafari pointed out that the number of samples taken from the bodies is 8,402.
