Libya has good quantities of shale fuels in unexplored fields and sites, said the Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Aoun, adding that more than 30% of the Libyan state’s area has not yet been explored.

In his speech at the Libya Energy and Economy Summit in Tripoli, Aoun added that Libya has very large quantities of shale oil and gas.

He explained that there is a committee that has begun to take over the exploration task and reached results, and we hope to carry out an actual experiment in drilling one of the wells to make sure in the coming days.

The Minister of Oil stressed that the need for fossil fuels still exists, despite all that is written and said about the trend to new or alternative energy. However, OPEC reports that the need for fossil fuels will continue and increase until 2045.

Aoun added that it is necessary to work to address the environmental impacts of fossil fuels in parallel with alternative energies, and this is the best solution, pointing to the need to rely on gas in the transition to renewable energy.

He pointed out that the African continent has huge quantities of gas, and what confirms this is the work to establish the two gas pipelines Nigeria to Europe, because the African country enjoys huge quantities of gas reserves in Nigeria.
