Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich attacked Egypt for Hamas’ attack on settlements around the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7.

Asked about possible Israeli moves in Rafah despite Egyptian opposition, Smotrich said that the arming of Hamas largely passed through Egypt, noting that the Egyptians bear great responsibility for what happened on October 7.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced its rejection of the statements of the extremist minister and said the spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid that it is unfortunate that the Israeli minister continues to make irresponsible and inflammatory statements, and only reveal an insatiable appetite for killing and destruction, and sabotage of any attempt to contain the crisis in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Egypt fully controls its territory, and does not allow any party to insert its name to justify the failure of its performance.

Earlier, Cairo warned of an Israeli incursion into Rafah, noting that the peace treaty between Cairo and Tel Aviv could be affected if Palestinians flee to Egypt.
