A military court in northern Somalia has sentenced six Moroccan nationals to death on terrorism charges.

A judge at Somalia’s Bosaso city court on Thursday sentenced nine suspects, including six Moroccans.

The court’s vice-president, Colonel Ali Ibrahim Osman, told Somalia’s Voice of America radio that the foreign militants were accused of training with ISIS at their base in the Kal Miscat mountains in Somalia’s northeastern region.

“They came to Somalia to support ISIS and destroy and shed blood,” the colonel added.

The spokesman confirmed that the court communicated with the families of the defendants and provided them with an interpreter and represented by a lawyer, explaining, “After all the court proceedings, including hearings and the presentation of evidence against the men, the court issued the verdicts. “But they can appeal within 30 days, or the verdict will be executed.”
