An official source from Mellitah Oil and Gas Company denied the validity of what was published by the Italian agency “Nova” that the Mellitah oil complex in Libya was subjected to an alleged cyber-attack.

The source told the “Fawasel” news platform that the technical team discovered a Trojan virus on some internal network devices last Saturday and isolated the infected devices.

The source explained that the company’s computer engineers intervened urgently to prevent the spread of the virus, stressing the continuation of operations and production normally.

Mellitah Oil and Gas is an equally joint venture between Italy’s Eni and Libya’s National Oil Corporation. The Mellitah oil complex is the only hub for exporting Libyan gas to Italy, via the Green Stream gas pipeline.

The complex, owned by Mellitah Oil and Gas Company (MOUJ), is located about 22 kilometers east of the Libyan city of Zuwara and covers an area of about 355 hectares.

The complex consists mainly of two plants, one to process oil and condensate production from the Wafa field (Al-Wafa Coastal Plant), while the other plant processes gas and condensate coming from the Sabratha offshore platform (Mellitah Plant).
