Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti) will meet Tuesday (December 26th) in Uganda’s capital Entebbe, informed sources revealed.

The meeting will be the first between the two sides since the start of the war in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in mid-April.

The upcoming meeting comes in implementation of the outcomes of the Intergovernmental Authority on African Development (IGAD) summit, which was held in Djibouti in early December.

Hemedti and Burhan had announced their willingness to conduct the interview. Political parties and circles welcomed the possible step and considered it the only way to resolve the current crisis and called for speeding up the meeting in order to avoid further devastation in Sudan.

Ahead of the highly anticipated meeting, Monday (December 25th) saw fierce clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid heavy artillery shelling and explosions in Khartoum. The state of Gezira witnessed looting and looting.

The bloody fighting that erupted in mid-April prompted nearly 500,000 people from Khartoum to Gezira state, which has remained spared the conflict.

But more than ten days ago, the Support Forces, which control much of the Sudanese capital, advanced on the highway linking Khartoum to the city of Wad Madani, capturing village after village.

As the fighting enters its ninth month and expands, local, international and regional parties have intensified their calls for a negotiated solution that stops the bleeding of more than 12,000 people killed and some 8 million people fleeing their homes.
