Mali’s military council issued a decree forming a committee to organize peace and national reconciliation talks, after ending a 2015 peace deal with Tuareg separatists and accusing Algeria, which mediated between the two sides of interfering in the council’s affairs.

The decision to end the so-called Algiers deal threatens to further destabilize the conflict-torn West African country.

In a clear step toward establishing a new internal peace process, the junta decree outlined the structure of the commission and the steps that should be taken to prepare for the talks. He did not specify a time frame or the groups he wanted to include in the dialogue. Algeria, which shares a border with Mali that is more than 1,300 kilometres, said that could endanger the entire region.
