Real Madrid youngster Brahim Diaz has chosen to represent the Moroccan national football team after deciding to move from representing Spain, local press reported.
The move comes after Dias was “ignored” by the Spanish Football Federation, with the 24-year-old deciding to ignore La Roja and wear the Atlas Lions shirt, according to sports newspaper Marca.
According to Radio Cadena, Diaz was not contacted by the former and current coaches of the Spanish national team, which led to the limitation of his participation with the Moroccan national team in the next two friendlies.
According to AS newspaper, Diaz made his final decision after the Spanish federation refused to inform him of his presence in the squad, where he will participate with the Moroccan national team in its matches against Colombia and Brazil.
For his part, the coach of “La Roja”, Luis de la Fuente, stressed that he respects Diaz’s decision, noting that the player is free to make his decision about representing the team he wishes to play with.
De la Fuente is expected to announce on Friday the list of players invited to the Spanish national team, while Diaz is supposed to be called up to represent Morocco in the Angola and Mauritania matches.
Diaz, who has only made one appearance for Spain’s Under-21s, is now moving on to become part of the Morocco national team after being given another opportunity to represent his home country.
