Liverpool Football Club announced on Sunday that Alan Hansen, its honorary captain and former star, is fighting a serious illness.

Hansen, who is 68 years old, is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, where the club expressed in an official statement its deep solidarity with the Hansen family, stressing its support for the family of the football legend, who played a prominent role in the club’s ancient history, and providing all possible support.

Liverpool also confirmed that it will follow up on communicating with the club’s fans with any news related to Hansen’s health condition as soon as it becomes available, noting the need to respect the family’s privacy at this critical time.

Alan Hansen is a former Scottish footballer, born on June 13, 1955. He played as a defender for the English club Liverpool and the Scotland national team. During his professional career, Hansen played for Partick Thistle from 1973 to 1977, then moved to Liverpool, where he played from 1977 to 1991.

Hansen achieved many achievements with Liverpool, where he won three European Cups, eight English League titles, the FA Cup twice, and the League Cup three times. After retiring from football, he worked as a football program analyst on the BBC.
