The crisis of rising groundwater levels in the Libyan city of Zliten revealed new dangers, represented by damage to trees and animals in the city, in addition to the increase in the number of damaged houses.

The media office of the Libyan High Council of State stated that the committee to follow up the environmental and humanitarian conditions of Zliten reviewed the environmental situation and the damage caused to trees and animals in the city, as a result of the phenomenon of high-water levels, and ways to address the effects of this phenomenon.

The media office explained that during a meeting between the Chairman of the Committee for the Follow-up of the Environmental and Humanitarian Conditions in the city of Zliten, Dr. Abdullah Jawan, and a member of the Committee, Dr. Ahmed Yaqoub, with the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Hussein Al-Qatrani, it was agreed to form a team of experts and specialists in the agriculture and livestock sector for the purpose of immediate start to inventory the damage caused by this phenomenon to plants, trees and animals.

The members of the committee proposed to hold a workshop on the possibilities available to benefit from water in agricultural uses, through a map of agricultural development and livestock, future programs to combat animal diseases, agricultural pests, and implementation mechanisms.
