Libya’s representative to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, criticized the foreign interference which is considered the main cause of the crisis in his country during his speech at the UN Security Council session on the situation in Libya.

Al-Sunni called on the UN Security Council to identify the parties or individuals who are obstructing the comprehensive settlement of the Libyan crisis, and expressed his dissatisfaction with the stagnation and external lectures about what the Libyans should do.

Al-Sunni stressed the need for Libyans to decide their fate themselves, expressing fatigue with using Libya to achieve the interests of regional countries and other countries, and stressed the importance of making internal decisions away from external interference.

Al-Sunni criticized the United Nations for its failure to address the political crisis in Libya and demanded the appointment of a new envoy capable of presenting a real political approach.

He pointed out that the problem may be in the United Nations or its former envoys, calling for the names of the parties obstructing the settlement in the country.

Al-Sunni stressed the importance of bringing together the Libyan parties, finding points of convergence between them, and setting an electoral road map and a specific timetable for the elections based on consensual electoral laws.

He also stressed the necessity of removing all foreign military forces from Libyan territory and supporting the “5+5” joint military committee to achieve this goal.

Al-Sunni pointed out the suffering of the Libyan people due to the consequences of the current situation, stressing the need to achieve progress in the political track and continue where it left off to achieve stability in the country.
