The Libyan and Syrian House of Representatives discussed a proposal to form a committee between the Libyan House of Representatives and the Syrian People’s Assembly to study the outstanding files between the two countries.

This came during the meeting of the delegation of the House of Representatives, headed by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan Council, Youssef Al-Akouri, with the Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, in the presence of the Libyan Foreign Minister Abdul Hadi Al-Hawij.

According to the media office of the House of Representatives, Al-Akouri stressed the depth of the historical relations between Libya and Syria, adding that Syria is a country of regional and international importance and is “one of the countries of the encirclement and confrontation with Israel, so it was targeted to fragment and destroy the Syrian people.”

During the meeting, which was held in the Syrian capital, Damascus, Al-Akouri pointed out that the Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly sent an official invitation to the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, to visit Syria, and the delegation of the House of Representatives invited the Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly to visit the city of Benghazi and the Libyan House of Representatives.

The meeting dealt with ways to consolidate bilateral relations between the two countries and enhance parliamentary cooperation between the Libyan House of Representatives and the Syrian People’s Assembly.
