Protesters from Fezzan, in southwestern Libya, have shut down the Sharara oil field after a deadline expired to respond to their demands for poor services and fuel and gas cuts.

The protesters held the NOC and governments fully responsible if their demands were not met, according to a statement read by a protester on Tuesday in front of the field.

The protesters attributed the closure to the expiration of a deadline agreed upon on December 31, by granting a deadline until Tuesday to respond to their demands, represented in the provision of fuel and its derivatives, activating the decision to establish a refinery in the south, maintaining dilapidated roads in the cities of Fezzan, appointing graduates from the region, and restructuring the Fezzan Reconstruction Fund.

The protesters demanded the cancellation of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the National Oil Corporation regarding the Ubari General Hospital and the obligation of the institution to establish a private hospital in Fezzan.
