The head of the Libyan government mandated by the House of Representatives, Osama Hammad, called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to remove the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batele, from the Libyan scene permanently and choose a suitable successor for him.

This came in Hammad’s official address to the Secretary-General and the permanent members of the United Nations on his briefing on Thursday.

Hammad said, “Briefing the UN envoy with it is a lot of fallacies and is right in most matters.”

Hammad pointed out that Batelly is clearly biased towards one party at the expense of another, and that he excluded the Libyan government from the five-way dialogue that he called for in the past period.

Hammad continued: “Batili confirms through his actions his support for the government of national unity and its continuation of the usurpation of power by his silence about holding the elections on their previous date.”

“The Libyan people have become skeptical about the ability of the Security Council to choose who represents them, and it requires that Mr. Batelli be removed from the scene once and for all,” Hammad said.
