The head of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives, Issa Al-Aribi, stressed the need for the Libyan government to respond to the demands of the residents of the oil and gas production areas, stressing the importance of providing basic services to these citizens.

Al-Aribi pointed out that the government is required to pay attention to these legitimate demands to ensure the provision of services without interruption and achieve a decent life for the residents, adding that providing these services is a binding duty on the state, and not just gifts or subsidies.

Al-Aribi pointed out the health damage suffered by the residents of the areas surrounding the oil production sites, calling for giving priority to these residents in job opportunities in oil facilities, and stressed the importance of attracting the largest number of people from these areas to work in the oil fields and ports.

In the same context, calls have increased from some local groups to close the “Al-Sharara” oil field in southwestern Libya as a means of pressuring the government to fulfill their demands that have not been fully disclosed.

Despite previous media reports indicating that the field has already been closed, informed sources denied this, confirming that the field has not been closed yet, but that there are preparations for the closure that may begin soon.

These developments come at a sensitive time for the Libyan oil sector, which is one of the country’s most important sources of income, increasing pressure on the government to respond quickly to citizens’ demands and avoid crises that could affect the national economy.
